Everything You Need To Learn About Clicker Dog Training
Many of us know that training your dog whatever kind of breed it is, is always difficult. But there is one method which lets you control and dictate your dog's behavior and is both very effective and impressive; Clicker Training. No matter what kind of dog you have, clicker dog training is one of the most effective and amazing methods for controlling and dictating a dog's behavior when attempting to teach them simple commands. Not to mention that clicker training takes very little time to master and with a well-operated clicker, you can teach your dog almost anything.
How Clicker Training Works
Clicker training works by training your dog to recognize and associate the sound of the clicker with a certain command you give. A clicker is a device that makes a high-pitched sound which you dog can hear over 20 yards away.
But clicker dog training doesn't actually start with a clicker. Firstly, you have to teach your dog that the sound of the clicker is a treat for good behavior. You can do this by getting a simple $2 clicker from your local pet store and a bag of goodies that the dog can easily eat.
Also remember that when you use a clicker your dog will always think that you're telling them that they did a good job and a reward is on the way. You can also use a word or verbal command in different circumstances.
How Clicker Dog Training is Done
There are 3 basic steps to start clicker training. To start with, you have to convince your dog that you want to it to do something that you want whether it is sitting, talking, rolling over, or any other tricks that you're attempting to teach. And as soon as your dog has performed what you wanted them to do, mark it with the clicker and a reward.
By doing this at least 3 times or more, your dog will learn what behavior they did and relate whenever you make use of the clicker, though a verbal command would take more time to get through.
You should continue these steps to reinforce the behavior whenever possible. Praising or petting your dog will work just as well as rewarding goodies and will eventually replace the behavior.
Making a transition to a Command
After your dog has successfully learned the behavior using clicker training you should transition to verbal command so that you can use it anyplace, even without the clicker. You just have to state the command then followed by using the clicker and then rewarding your dog, they will easily learn to associate all three.
With good clicker dog training, your dog will eventually respond to a verbal cue without the demand for treats or praise and the dog will just know that the action pleases you.
Not only does this way have lots of applications but it's probably one of the easiest methods in training your dog. You can mark and reinforce nearly any behavior with a simple, sharp command.
